From Home to Nome
Gwenn Bogart, age 57, has spent most of her adult life living in Manchester, Vermont. But, in 2009 while traveling to Alaska to watch the Iditarod she met Alaska resident and pilot David Bogart.
In 2012 Gwenn and Dave got married on the Ruth Glacier at the base of Mt. McKinley and reside in Wasilla, Alaska with two border collies (Bonny and Arctic) and one very fresh little wiener dog named Frank. Gwenn enjoys fishing, flying airplanes, riding her road bicycle, and her artwork. Gwenn has two daughters, Molly (21) who resides in Vermont and Hannah (25) who lives in Portland, Oregon.
The 2015 Iditarod was Gwenn's first attempt at running the big race, but had to scratch early in the race due to some harsh subzero temperatures which changed the game plan of Gwenn's initial race planning. In the best interest of the dogs and herself the decision had to be made to pull out of the race.
The 2016 race was Gwenn's mushing goals, but in early September the circumstances of her training plans changed. It became inevitable that she had to withdraw and reshape her goals. This winter will be one of doing some other things beside just running dogs. There are snow machine trips, skiing and some travel to be had. Things happen for a reason, Bogart says. She now has an opportunity to recharge her "mushing battery" so to speak and look forward to Iditarod 2017 with her very own group of Alaskan Huskies.
